What you think, you become
- By Brian Keane
IT ALL STARTS WITH IMAGINATION!
Your imagination is literally the workshop where all plans and ideas are created. We as human beings know that thoughts influence actions; we become what we think about most of the time. The impulse, the desire, is given shape, form and action though the aid of the imaginative faculty of the mind (and what we put into it). The beauty being, we have FULL control of what we put into our minds!
“What you think, you become” – Buddha.
We are probably the luckiest civilisation of all time (or perhaps unluckiest depending on how you look at it)- we are the generations that literally have the world’s knowledge at our fingertips, our every question is a Google search away.
“We are drowning in information, but starved for knowledge” – Tony Robbins.
We are now in an age where there is so much information out there that’s its easy to feel like you’re ‘drowning’ in it. The key is finding the right information, the right people and then filling your mind with their ideas, their thoughts, their philosophies – thoughts become things and the ideas you fill your head with are the fuel for your imagination. Your imagination and vision is the starting point to getting what ever it is you want out of life.
One of my primary goals in life (alongside building a life changing fitness system that allows people to look they way they want and feel even better) is to instil the confidence and self-respect in my daughter, so that she grows up with belief that she can literally achieve anything. This book is partly my gift to her in case anything ever happens to me and this is what she’s left with. Whether I’m on this planet or not, I want her (and anybody else that reads this) to understand that you can get whatever you want out of life as long as you work hard enough, surround yourself with the right people and program your mind to believe you can achieve greatness!
“Greatness isn’t this wonder, esoteric illusion that only the greatest among us have, it truly exists in all of us” – Will Smith
‘Greatness’ is a subjective term. For some, it’s achieving the top level of their sport, hitting seven figures in their income or becoming CEO in their business; for others maybe its being a great parent, husband or wife.
For me, greatness means excitedly jumping out of bed every morning. Greatness is being grateful, happy and fulfilled because you’re building or have a built a life that truly excites you. I’m fortunate enough to have that every single morning; there’s nights when I literally can’t sleep because I’m so excited for the next day; I want to instil that philosophy in my daughter. Decide what greatness looks like for you, see that vision clearly and then do everything in your power to create that lifestyle or image for you yourself.
“We only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough” – Mae West.
You, me, anybody can create anything in which they can imagine. Of all the ages of civilisation, this is the most favourable for the development of our imagination- you can take out your phone and follow the most inspirational people online through their websites, blogs or social media.
You can literally download their thoughts and understand how they live their life. “Success leaves clues” – if you’re wondering what the top athlete does to improve their sporting performance, follow them and see how they live their life; if you want to know how to make a million dollars, follow the people that have done it and see what they did.
People didn’t have that luxury 20 years ago; we can now click into social media and follow the people that inspire us; that’s a luxury that previous generations didn’t have, so use it.. But use it wisely.
If you are following the wrong people; wherein seeing certain celebrities, influencers or people are making you feel bad about yourself or your life, then they are not supporting you on your journey. I offer that you have a real think about what people (in life and online) are supporting you and what thoughts you’re letting into your mind; if somebody is offering you nothing but a selfie and a pretty face, is that really helping you get what you want in life? Who we follow influences our thoughts; thoughts influence actions, actions dictate who we become. Decide who you want to be and who’s helping you create that vision into a reality.
“Man’s only limitation, within reason, lives in his development and use of his imagination” – Napoleon Hill
DESIRE IS NOT ENOUGH!
“Knowing is not enough, we must apply, being willing is not enough, we must do” – Bruce Lee
Desire is only a thought, an impulse. Desire and motivation are abstract; they have no value, until they have been transformed into their physical counterpart. How many times have you heard a person talk about, ‘I’m going to do this’ or ‘ I’m going to do that’ and never do anything about it. Don’t get me wrong, having and idea and desire to achieve something is the start of all great things but saying you are going to do something and never actually doing it becomes a habit.. and a confidence destroying habit at that.
CONFIDENCE IS KEY!
Confidence comes from saying we are going to do something and doing it whether people believe in you or not.
“Don’t let the noise of others opinions drown out your own inner voice” – Steve Jobs
I wouldn’t change winning my Fitness Model Pro Card at the 2015 Miami Pro bodybuilding show for anything in the world, not because of what it gave me (the ability to compete for prize money, sponsorships etc.) or the success that came with it, it was the fact that it was something I set out at the beginning of my career to do and the internal confidence that it gave me by achieving a goal that at one time seemed so ‘unrealistic’ to me.
I’ve since learned that ‘being realistic’ is the most travelled road to mediocrity; if you want an average life, then do average thing (and if that makes you happy, then I would never change it) – but if you want to do something more, set your targets and goals high.
“If you aim for the moon and miss, you’ll at least hit the start ‘ – W Clement Stone.
The confidence that achieving a goal that once looked ‘unrealistic’ will evolve a version of you that you never thought possible.
The truth is, ideas are the beginning point of all fortunes (in all fortune senses: wealth, health, love and happiness). Ideas are products of the imagination. Once you can see something clearly in your mind, you just work backwards. You can’t connect the dots looking forward, but you can connect them looking backwards.
Decide what you want or who you want to be, clearly focus on that vision (so clearly, that your mind already holds possession of it) and then work backwards from it.
Maybe you want to drop 4 dress sizes or get a six pack for the first time in your life or maybe you just want to be happier in your life, what does success or greatness that look like for you? Picture how that would make you look and more importantly, how it would make you feel!
After that, use that luxury that only our generation posses to follow the people who can support that vision. Remember ‘possession of everything begins in the mind’ – Bruce Lee
Decide on the person you want to be and the life you want to have and then GO F*****G GET IT!
